An Ice Mummy Of My Very Own

As promised, I painted me a painting inspired by Mr. John Torrington (see last entry for more on him & his amazing face). I've never created a piece of art that actively creeped me out while I was working on it (being in the studio alone? DID NOT HELP), but I love the way he turned out.

Here are some low-quality photobooth shots of the process (all done in one sitting) - he's not quite done, but is pretty darn close!

Now I want to make art inspired by other mummies - I think the Tollund Man is first on the list.

Funny that I should come across this, I'm also quite interested in the Franklin expedition as well, and I'm actually in the process of making a small doll of Torrington which should be done in the next week or so.

It's great to see another artist with similar tastes (I'm of course referring to your entire body of work!) Too bad I'm in Kitchener and not Toronto 3: Anywho, I shall definitely be following your work from hereon out!

(blogger has such a strange comment system!) Thanks for the reply! And yes, I have read it (fabulous book by the way). When I first started becoming interested in it I searched out everything I could possibly find, starting with that book! I've even read the official autopsy report, since universities are magic and store crazy things like that in their online archives, haha!

And you can be sure I'll let you know as soon as I'm finished! I'm done the hands as of last night, tomorrow I will be finishing the feet and then getting started on the body and clothing.
